I came to Australia with my mother and sister Vanda in 1966 from the UK aboard the Sitmar liner Castel Felice. We settled in South Australia I lived in the western suburbs of Adelaide for most of my life. I became very interested in retro items in my twenties. It was always a dream of mine to have an old house and fill it with retro items. I have done it twice now. My main interest is collecting old things. They do not have to be valuable, only interesting. There is something reassuring about old retro items. I have all sorts of things including doll related items. My other interests are my beautiful pets, art and going for drives to who knows where. I also enjoy board games or doing a scenic jig saw puzzle on a wintry afternoon by the fire. My goal is to travel a bit more as there are some places I would love to see
Yay! We both have exactly the same dislikes. 🙂 I have family who live in Romford. My dad almost migrated us to Tasmania when I was a teenager. I’ve often wondered how differently my life would have turned out if he hadn’t changed his mind at the last minute. 😕

Fancy that! The internet makes the world a very small place. Yes I wonder about the opposite sometimes. What would have happened if we’d stayed in Romford?

Hello. I saw your shop (briefly) in the show “Rosehaven,” which I love. I can’t get over how gorgeous your part of the world is; I hope to see it one day. Best wishes.

Hi JJ I’ve missed a few episodes of Rosehaven but if you are referring to the Op Shop shown in season 1 that is actually not in Geeveston. It was set up in an empty store in New Norfolk which is about 40km north of Hobart. I wish they had come and filmed our shop but I don’t think they would have been able to fit the cameras into the shop as it is so cluttered. New Norfolk is a very nice town in the Derwent Valley and Oatlands where they filmed the real estate office scenes has some lovely old buildings. The street scenes were filmed in Church Street Geeveston where you can see the wooden statues, bakery and butcher shop amongst others.

Thanks. I think we’re probably a lot less interesting than we sound but we have fun.

Hi to you both, were you classed as £10 Poms in 1966? My family – father, mother and myself sailed across to Melbourne in 1965 and were £10 Poms 🙂

We were intended to be but our father did not pass the medical so our next alternative was to be sponsored by family already in Australia so that’s what happened. The relatives who came over a year before us were Ten Pound Poms.
