CFFC: Sporting Venues

Sporting Venues — CFFC

I don’t watch a lot of sport but I do like cricket. When I lived in Geeveston I used to go and watch cricket at Bellerive Oval in Hobart. I took a lot of photos there. Trying to get a good shot of a player was as much fun as watching the game. If my team was losing photography was more fun than watching.

Since I took this photo in 2010 on one of my first visits the ground has been upgraded. The new grandstand somewhat blocks the view of Mt Wellington.

The era of the selfie was just beginning in the 2010s but I preferred to take candid photos of players. Here are a few I was pleased with.

I have never been to an interstate cricket match. I would like to but cricket is a summer game and I find the mainland states too hot in summer. I wouldn’t enjoy being outdoors on a sweltering summer day.

This is one entrance to Adelaide Oval. When I lived in Adelaide there was a beautiful old grandstand but now they have a very modern stadium.

Some years ago on a visit to Melbourne we did a tour of the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the National Sports Museum.

Finally, I should mention Sunbury, Victoria where I am staying. It won’t mean a lot to American readers but Sunbury is the birthplace of the Ashes.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs,Teddy and Brodie and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly.
