WordPress Daily Prompt: 15 April

Daily writing prompt
What are 5 everyday things that bring you happiness?

The funny antics of our pets: They always make us laugh and having them around makes me happy.

Tigerwoods playing with newspaper

The local wildlife: Watching possums and pademelons in the garden at night or seeing a Fairy Wren, hopping around in the garden. We are very fortunate to live where there is lots of wildlife even if they do keep eating our plants.

Flowers: It always makes me happy to have flowers around. Naomi bought a big bunch of Dahlia’s home from the market last week. They really brightened up the room. I love watching for the bulbs we plant every autumn to start coming up and I love it when they bloom in spring. I also love my roses. I’ve had such a hard time with them that any sign of new growth and flowers is cause for celebration.

King Alfred Daffodils.

Photography: I photograph my dolls and everyday items for our blogs but what I love most is being able to go out for the day with the camera and capture something interesting.

Funny conversations with Naomi: We find a lot of things to laugh about. Reminiscences, things that happened during our day, especially if we haven’t seen each other all day, old jokes and silly ideas.

I could think of a lot more everyday things. Reading a good book, talking to visitors at the Information Centre where I volunteer every week, the taste of a good cup of coffee, ice cream, a beautiful sunrise or sunset. I can’t rank these things but they are all special.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.
