Blogging Insights 3.0 #5

Dr Tanya of “Salted Caramel” is back with another blogging question this week and it is one that I feel quite strongly about.

TODAY’S QUESTIONS:

How important is the About page of your blog?

I think that the about page of a blog is very important. When I read an interesting post by a blogger that I’ve not come across before I like to visit their “About” page to see what their interests are and if I would like to follow their blog. I’ve noticed though, that many bloggers these days don’t have one which is a shame. It’s such a good opportunity to introduce yourself and explain what your blog is about.

What constitutes the perfect About page?

That’s up to the individual I think. Some people just list facts, some are funny, some write a short bio. I do think that a good About page should be a place for the writer to express their personality.

How often do you think an About page needs to be updatedand when is the last time you updated yours’ ?

I thought I had better check mine. It has a terrible photo of me taken in 2018 and it mentions living in Sisters Beach so I’d say that I last redid it about 2020. It’s pretty accurate fact wise but I might redo it just to make it a bit more interesting. I wish I had a better photo but I hate having my picture taken. I think it is good to update your page when your life circumstances change but it doesn’t have to be every year.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.
