The Morning Dawdler #3: 9 January

Rory has started a new Q& A prompt so I’m playing along today even though it is night time here.

Have you ever learned to fight or taken self-defence lessons – why did you feel this was necessary or was this something that you wanted to know to feel safer?

No never, I’m totally uncoordinated and I don’t think I’d be very good at it. I don’t like conflict of any kind. I prefer flight to fight.

Do you spell grey as gray and also is it colour or color?

Grey and it is a colour. A colour I have come to dislike very much due to its overuse in interior and exterior decorating over the past few years. I find it both boring and depressing to have so many things this colour. I never minded it as a neutral at one time but now I am sick to death of it and won’t have it in my house.

Are you now or have you ever been afraid of the dark?

I’m afraid of falling over in the dark because I have poor night vision but I haven’t been afraid of the dark since I was a child.

Where do you prefer to do most of your clothing shopping – online or in-store?

I would really rather go to the shops because I like to see the clothing myself. I want to see if I like the colour and feel of the material and if it is a good fit. Colours online can sometimes look different from the real thing. Of course, it’s not so hard to send stuff back if you don’t like it but it is time consuming waiting for the replacement. However, I do in fact, buy most of my clothes online because I don’t often get to the shops and there are limited choices available in my size anyway.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Hey Vanda, with you totally on the Grey. I like grey but have found it is often far overused these days almost as a replacement colour rather than what l considered an interim colour. Why is the clothing in the tree? Was this a new style of marketing as in ‘branching out in a new direction …. 🙂
