WP Daily Prompt: 7 December 2022

Do you have a favorite place you have visited? Where is it?

WP

All this week bloggers may have noticed that when they open a new, blank post there has been a prompt written on it. The other day it also started appearing on my dashboard. So far I have had other things to post about and to be honest was a little annoyed to find a random question posted on my doll blog. However, like many others I did enjoy the old Daily Prompts that WP would post back in my early blogging days. I guess ignoring the prompt was a bit of “Well who needs you?” on my part. But today, as the question involves travel, and I haven’t yet checked the Reader for other challenge posts I thought I’d give it a whirl.

It’s always hard for me to choose a favourite holiday destination. I love Scotland, I loved our brief visit to New Zealand, especially Wellington and Napier. I loved visiting North Wales with it’s little steam railways. I’d go back to most of the places I’ve visited except Singapore but that is only because it is too hot and humid for me.

Then it occurred to me that there is a place that I’ve visited that I loved so much that I decided that I wanted to live there. Yes, it’s Tasmania! I first visited Tassie in 1998. Naomi and I came for two weeks and before the end of the first week we wanted to move here for good. It took a few years but we did it. I’ve been here for twenty years now and Naomi will have her twentieth anniversary next year.

Twenty Photos for Twenty Years

Believe me I had a hard time choosing just twenty photos.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.
