Share Your World 2022: 24 October

Di is filling in for Melanie again this week. Here are her questions.

Questions.

1.  How organised are you? Do you plan ahead, take things as they come, or does it depend on the circumstances?

It depends on the circumstances. I do like to plan ahead for things like holidays. I think you have to, or you risk leaving things at home that you need or having issues with documentation, accommodation or just not having enough time to do all the things you wanted to do. However, I think it’s not good to be too rigid. Sometimes the spur of the moment things turn out to be the best. Maybe you have to be organised in order to take advantage of spur of the moment opportunities.

2.  How many Christmas presents have you bought already?

I have actually bought presents for a couple of people already because I saw things that I thought they would like. I don’t actually buy for a lot of people now but it’s good to have a couple of the important ones done.

3.  Do you prefer a family gathering for special occasions, or just you and your significant other?

It’s usually just Naomi and I for special occasions now as we live far away from everyone we used to know. I used to enjoy family gatherings very much but when David and I first came to Tasmania we had a couple of Christmases that were just us and they were nice too. Very relaxing.

4.  How many words do you think your pet understands?

I don’t know about Polly. Cats understand a lot. They just don’t really care. Toby understands a lot of words. He is a bit underweight so Naomi likes him to have a small meal in the middle of the day. We refer to it as Toby’s lunch so now Toby knows the word lunch. We have to spell out a lot of words that Toby knows although we suspect that he also knows what we mean when we do that. Teddy loves egg so he knows the word for that. The most unusual word that Cindy learned was “letterbox’. She liked to come with me to get the mail at our old house and when I’d say I was going to the letterbox she’d get all excited even though it was just down the driveway. She wasn’t allowed in the front garden usually because it was unfenced. All the dogs we’ve ever had knew “walk”, “ball”, “dinner”, “outside”, “sausage” ,”biscuit” and “car ride”. Some of them have known a lot more.

Please share a gratitude meme for your readers.

I don’t really go in for memes as a rule but here is one.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Love the gratitude. Thanks for joining in. Christmas is just us though we buy for our two special friends here. We usually have ‘Us’ presents if we see something we like, other than that we have our £10 dash for the silly things. I love that.
