At one point, Owen had a hobby shop. He didn’t have many customers so while he was hoping some would show up, he built a model railroad that was amazing. I’m always astonished at how must time and patience that kind of work takes Great pictures. Love them all — model railroad, ropes, old farm equipment — and why is that new mall empty?

Model railways are amazing. I love the scenery as much as the trains. All the little details.
The mall is a sad story. We had a big department store called Myers. They decided for reasons I don’t know to demolish their old building and build a new one. When the new, smaller Myer store was built the rest of the building was for specialty shops. There was even a funfair on the top floor. However, over time that closed and then other stores closed until whole floors were empty. Adelaide was having a bit of a building boom in the city and I think there were more shop spaces available than shops to fill them, or maybe rents were too high. I took that photo several years ago, before David died. I’m not sure if it is fully tenanted now. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the original building.
