QUESTIONS

If You Could Be Best Friends With A Celebrity, Who Would It Be?

I don’t pay much attention to celebrity gossip. Today’s celebrities don’t really interest me and to be honest most of the young ones I have no clue who they are anyway. I’d like to have met Katharine Hepburn I think she’d have been interesting to hang out with for an evening.

What is, or should be, the main purpose of law?

The law should protect the innocent and punish or deter wrongdoing. It’s main purpose ought to be to provide structure to society.

Do You Care About Reviews?

I always read reviews of products I am interested in buying as research. One of my favourite sources is Choice, a magazine put out by a consumer advocacy group. Their reviews are always unbiased. I read buyers comments too although I am aware that some may be paid reviews. I would rather rely on an honest review than the words of a salesperson.

I sometimes read book and movie reviews but I will usually make up my own mind about whether I want to read/watch.

However, if someone was reviewing my work I probably wouldn’t want to read it.

Is the ‘mind’ different to the ‘brain’? If so, in what ways?

I was not sure what is meant by this. We talk about people being “brainy” or not using their brain if they act foolishly. We also say someone is out of their mind. So I guess you could use those words interchangeably.

However, according to neuroscientists the mind and the brain are not the same thing. One article I read said this:

The mind uses the brain, and the brain responds to the mind. The mind also changes the brain. People choose their actions—their brains do not force them to do anything. Yes, there would be no conscious experience without the brain, but experience cannot be reduced to the brain’s actions.

GRATITUDE SECTION

Overall how sunny is your nature?  (Optimistic)?

I have been an optimist for most of my life but these days it is harder than it used to be.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Thank you Vanda for Sharing Your World! Katharine Hepburn was so elegant. I loved her grace and she epitomized what a lady should be like. Very good choice! Nice description of “the law’ too! Your perspective of the mind/brain makes a lot of sense, so good job! I hope you have a great week!
