Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Capturing the Photographer

A Photo or a Selfie?

I knew I was going to struggle to find some photos of photographers for this week’s challenge. I do have these two of my friend Bruce. The first one taken at the Sunbury Asylum where we had gone to take some photos and the second one on a very chilly day cruising the Gordon River at Strahan, Tasmania.

“What now?” I thought. I don’t take a lot of photos of other photographers. However, these days whenever you go to a tourist spot you find the people taking selfies. I guess they are photographers too.

We took this boat ride in the shopping centre at Marina Bay Singapore and the girls next to us did not stop taking selfies the whole time. I don’t think they actually looked at their surroundings at all.

Gardens on the Bay in Singapore is amazing (looks much better in colour). I was kind of annoyed that these people were spoiling my photo of the giant trees but then I thought that they were actually a symbol of what modern tourism has become.

I was actually taking a photo of the cathedral with the line of bicycles in front of it and didn’t notice these guys until I looked at the photo later.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Garry and I take pictures of each other. You don’t see a lot of selfie takers around here. Probably because we don’t have any famous buildings or stuff like that. Probably we would see more of that in Boston — if we ever went to Boston. Actually we don’t see a lot of other people these days. Since COVID, this quiet place has gotten even quieter.
