E.M’s Sunday Ramble #13

This week’s topic is “Technology and The Future “.

Here are the questions:

Are there any applications on your mobile device, tablets, etc. that you cannot live without? Feel free to ramble about them! Maybe we will learn new apps that will become important in our own lives.

Anyone who knows me knows that I despise phones both mobile and landline so I don’t spend a lot of time using apps. I do have a couple that I find handy on my phone. I have an app for (Australian) Medicare. That has a link to my proof of vaccination so I don’t have to carry a piece of paper around with me. I hope one day I will be able to live without needing it. I also have one for Centrelink (Social Security) in case my internet is down and I need to do my fortnightly check in.

Do you prefer Apple or Android?

Android, Apple is too expensive for me and it is annoying that all their parts are not compatible with anything non-Apple.

Windows OS or MacOS?

Windows. See above.

My new computer.

What do you wish that you would have placed in a time capsule 15+ years ago to have access to now?

I still have a lot of the things that I had 15 + years ago so I’m not sure that is a relevant question. I’m not a hoarder, well some might say I am because I collect things, but as long as something is still good, I keep using it. Naomi and I are the type of people who go to museums and antique shops and see things that we still own on display.

When you think of the what the world will look like 50 years from now, what does that future look like through your eyes? Go as sci-fi and/or fantasy as you would like and ramble on however you wish to ramble

I’m afraid I don’t even want to think about that any more. I just hope that we’re still here. Well, not me, I’d be 115. I definitely won’t be here. Unless a lot of things change, I see a world which is much hotter, a lot of places on the coast may be underwater. I see more big storms and more bad bushfires. I see more trees destroyed and old buildings pulled down and replaced with ugly new ones. I see a greater divide than ever between the rich and the poor. The only thing that won’t have changed is that there will still be wars, greedy corporations and idiot politicians. These are the shadows of things to come that I see. I hope I’m wrong.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. That’s a nice little nook for your computer 🙂 It looks like a cozy place to write. We dislike Apple for the same reasons. I always say they are not user-friendly. I too fear that for the future. I have a feeling we are due for another extinction event, like an asteroid or comet. Thankfully, the politicians and greedy corps cannot survive the demise that I think we will encounter.
