Sunday Ramble #10

Music

What is your favorite genre of music?

Rock music, particularly from the 60s, 70s and 80s. However, I do enjoy listening to other genres like classical (but not opera) and jazz.

Jerome Hillier is a local musician who often plays at Penguin Market

What is your least favorite genre of music?

Country music (by a country mile). I quite enjoy Bluegrass but unlike the “Good Ol Boys” I don’t care for country or western.

What movie has a very memorable soundtrack?

I loved the music from “The Big Chill” all classic tracks from the 1960s. I also like many of John Williams compositions for movies, yes themes from “Star Wars”, “Star Trek”, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” “Jurassic Park” and many others. A lot of these are played on the classical music radio station I prefer these days.

A favourite film of mine is “Local Hero” from 1983. The soundtrack was by Mark Knopfler and I really like that theme as well.

What are three songs that gets you excited?

I’m not sure if this question means get me excited about listening to them or whether it means I think they are exciting songs.

“Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin is one I think of as being exciting music. Quite different but also an exciting piece of music is “Jupiter” from “The Planets Suite”. Finally in another genre altogether “When The Saints Go Marching In” is a very uplifting piece of music.

What was the last song that you listened to?

“Stairway to Heaven” while I was finishing off this post.

Taswegian1957

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.
