E.M.’s Sunday Ramble #5

Pets

This week the Sunday Ramble prompt is about pets so how could I not join in?

Do you have any pets? If you do, tell us about them (name, kind of pet, etc.)

We currently have six pets at home, three dogs and three cats. One dog, Cindy, is mine. She is a Staffy/Lab/Corgi X and is 15 years old. The other two dogs belong to Naomi, Toby who is 10 and Teddy who is 8 years old. Our cats are Polly, my cat, and Tigerwoods and Panther who belong to Naomi. They are all between 8-9 years old. Polly is a “tuxedo cat”, Tigerwoods is a grey tabby and Panther is all black.

What nicknames do you call your pet(s)?

Cindy doesn’t have a nickname, nor does Polly although I often call her “Miss Polly” because she can be demanding.

Do your pet(s) like to travel with you in the car?

Cindy loves the car but she is horrible to travel with as she fidgets and whines, the doggy equivalent of “Are we there yet?” Toby and Teddy like the car and are very good in it. The cats all hate it of course.

If you had to imagine, who would your pet(s) be if they were human?

They would be our kids and an unruly family they can be sometimes. There is always at least one of them on the naughty list.

What does your pet(s) do for you?

They make us laugh, they comfort us when we’re sad and they know when we are not feeling well. You are never lonely if you have a pet.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. AWWW!! All of your and Naomi’s furbabies are adorable! Thank you for sharing them with me and rambling about your furbabies with me! I like the comment about the unruly family if they were human *giggles*

    • Cindy often tops the naughty list for getting into the dog treats box when we go out or emptying the rubbish bin. Toby sometimes uses my bathroom floor for a toilet, even after being let out. Teddy is usually a good boy but he’s a bit greedy and tells us off if we don’t give him a bit of our meal (We don’t make a habit of it). Tigerwoods bullies Panther and Teddy and steals their beds, he also eats Naomi’s plants. Polly is grouchy and sometimes hisses at us or Toby and Teddy for no reason. Panther is nearly always a good girl but occasionally knocks ornaments off the table by the window where she likes to sit.
