It’s Monday morning in Australia and although I read these questions on Sunday Night, I decided to sleep on them before answering.
Here are the questions:
What is your all time favorite food for any occasion?
There are a lot of foods I call favourites. One of them is bread. I love toast for breakfast, especially raisin toast, toasted ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch on a cool day or salad sandwiches with fresh bread on a warm one. I like crusty bread straight from the oven or bread maker and those soft white dinner rolls. I like multigrain and wholemeal bread for sandwiches or just eating with butter or margarine. One of my favourites is Helga’s Soy & Linseed loaf.
If we’re talking about meals for special occasions I would have to go for roast lamb. When I was growing up, and for some years after that, we would have a roasted leg of lamb with roast potatoes and vegetables every Sunday. It’s too expensive to have lamb that often now but we get it occasionally for a treat. We may have one at Christmas.
What is your favorite season and why?
I have to say spring because I adore the spring flowering bulbs especially daffodils and tulips. Living here in north west Tasmania we get treated to an annual display of tulips at the Table Cape Tulip Farm which opens to the public but we can often glimpse fields of commercially grown tulips from the roadside at other farms. Daffodils always brighten me up with their cheery colours after a long dull winter. I had so many daffodils in my garden at Geeveston as I used to plant a few more every year and they were blooming earlier every year. Spring is just a wonderful time in nature. I love seeing the blossoms on trees, new growth on plants and lambs and calves in the fields.
Autumn in Tasmania is lovely too. As it is cooler than mainland Australia, we get a display of colours as the trees turn to red, yellow and gold. Oak trees grow well here and the acorns on the ground remind me of my early childhood in England.
Pick three of your most favorite colors and tell me why you love them.
Red: I’ve always loved red. I like to wear it. I like red flowers; I like red cars although I probably wouldn’t have one. I can’t really explain why I like it so much. I guess because it can be such a vibrant colour. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to appreciate the darker shades, especially for clothing and the softer shades like raspberry and rose. The bright reds that I associate with fire engines, Ferrari’s, post boxes and London buses are still my favourite but I realise that those shades can be overpowering in large amounts.
Green: Green was my mum’s favourite colour and she said she liked it because it was the colour of the grass and trees. I can’t think of a better answer than that. Green is fresh and cool and it is easy on the eyes.
Purple: It was harder to choose a third favourite colour because I really like blue and yellow too. However, a glance at my wardrobe will show a lot of shades of purple. I do favour the bright shades over the pastels. I guess that I just like colours that make a statement.
Who is your favorite person on the planet?
I’m afraid I can’t really answer this one very well. Some of the people dearest to me are gone now, David, my mum, my grandmother. Of those people still living, there are a small group of family members and friends, they know who they are. I am not going to name just one.
What is your most favorite personality trait in other people?
Kindness, people who are kind and thoughtful towards others.
