UNVARNISHED QUESTIONS

If you had the power to strike one person in your life permanently speechless, who would it be? (Real names aren’t necessary, vague descriptions are fine… and yes, this is being asked in fun and not to be mean)

I know a person who talks complete and utter rubbish all the time. Luckily, I rarely see them but silence would be better.

If you could relive your childhood over again, what’s one thing from this modern world today you’d want to take back with you?

All the dolls I’ve collected since I turned forty :-). OK some of them are vintage and as old as I am or older but I bought a lot of really nice Barbie dolls from 1997 onwards.

A group of Barbies I was photographing for our doll blog.

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple are the standard colors of the rainbow.
Name something you love (or greatly admire/appreciate) for all six major colors of the rainbow! (Sorry indigo, you’re just blue-purple.  Hot pink?  You’re too flashy!)

King Alfred Daffodils.

First of all, how am I going to remember the colours if I can’t say “Richard Of York Goes Battling In Vain” ?I have to have Indigo and Violet not purple. OK

  • Red, roses & tulips
  • Orange, mandarins
  • Yellow, daffodils
  • Green, grass, Green Rosellas
  • Blue, Superb Fairy Wren
  • Indigo, The sky at night
  • Violet, Jacaranda trees

If you were to open the world’s most accurate fortune cookie, what would your fortune inside it read?

It ought to say “Don’t believe everything you read”

Santa’s tired of people leaving him out cookies and milk on Christmas Eve night!  If you really wanted to get on Santa’s good side, what would you leave out for him to eat/drink instead? (This question applies whether you celebrate Christmas or not.  It’s just for fun, so imagination?  Welcome!  )

I think that when he visits Australia Santa might well be left a beer, or at least a note to look in the fridge for a cold one. He might also be directed to a plate of prawns or a slice of Pavlova. However, at our house it would most likely be a cup of tea and a mince pie.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Thank you Vanda for Sharing Your World! 😀 You’re certainly allowed to have any color you want in your rainbow and the two additions are favored colors of mine, so it’s perfectly okay! 😀 I loved your list and the photos. That bird is so beautiful! I’m sure Santa would appreciate a cold one (because it’s warm over your way right now), but the tea and mince pie would go down a treat I bet! I’m still chuckling over “Don’t believe everything you read” Heh heh … and your doll photo is great, and they’re all dressed so smartly too! Have a wonderful week!
