Photographing Public Art Challenge #14

Public Art in Geeveston

My former hometown of Geeveston has a very strong forestry heritage so it was only natural to choose timber as a medium for public art around town. What I especially love though is that they chose to feature local people and their stories. These statues were carved and placed on and around Church Street, the main street. There is a former local doctor, policeman, blacksmith, chemist and others. In recent years the local history group commissioned several short films, each featuring one of the characters. As well as being available on DVD visitors can access them by scanning the QR code one the explanatory sign near each one. Pretty cool I think.
