QUESTIONS

Do you believe in second chances?

Do I believe that they happen? Sometimes. If you are lucky you may get another chance to do something you missed out on doing. You may get a chance to fix past mistakes or at least not make the same one again. You be able to reconnect with people you have lost. But it is not a given so it’s better to get it right the first time.

If you mean do I think people should get second chances then yes I do. Nobody’s perfect and unless we’re talking about mass murderers and psychopaths a second chance seems fair. Of course every case depends on the circumstances.

Is your glass half full or half empty?

I’ve always been a glass half full type of person. I try to look for what is good, not what is bad.

Would you rather someone be honest and hurt your feelings or lie to protect them?

If I’m being honest I’d rather not hear criticism and negative comments but sometimes you have to just take it.

When have you felt your biggest adrenaline rush?

I always get stuck with these questions that ask you to compare different events. I don’t have that kind of mind that I sit and think “Gee that was the most exciting thing that ever happened to me.” I reach into the grab bag of my memory and try to come up with something meaningful.

One thing that comes to mind which is not super exciting or scary is the times that we used to go on steam train trips around country South Australia. Naomi and I started going as teenagers and we’d get to the station early and wait on the platform until the locomotive arrived from the nearby depot. When we first spotted the smoke in the distance or heard the whistle we would run up the platform to watch it couple up to the carriages. If you knew me well you’ d know that practically nothing makes me run, but the excitement of those days always did.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Thanks, Vanda for Sharing Your World! Laura (from Riddle In The Middle) gave an answer to the honesty question that I loved…diplomatic honesty. I think that means one tells the truth as a rule, but doesn’t go out of their way to hurt someone’s feelings deliberately. I like the idea! 🙂 Yes, I would agree that you’re a very glass half full person, you seem cheerful and upbeat even when things might get stressful (to those of us reading your blog!). I’m glad you could have a nice walk, and I LOVE trains. I always wanted to do an extensive trip on one…go cross country and sleep in a sleeper car and all, but I haven’t yet and then last year? That idea was scotched obviously. Maybe sometime in the future though! Those trips sound lovely and yes, very exciting! That’s a good kind of adrenaline rush! 🙂 Have a wonderful week!
