RDP: Rain

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head

Everyone is talking about the rain. In the western part of the USA where wildfires are raging they want it and need it. In Europe they have had way too much which has caused floods. Many fellow bloggers have been posting about how much rain they are having. Of course it is winter here in Australia so we expect some rain but this last two weeks has been exceptional in our part of Tasmania.

When I lived in Geeveston we often had continuous rain for days. The front garden would become a bog and I couldn’t get any washing dry unless I used the dryer. Last winter here, although we certainly had some wet days and some big thunderstorms, I don’t think it was as wet as this. I am not sure yet what is normal for the northwest coast as it is only the second winter we’ve had the house.

Naomi used to joke that it always rained when she came to visit me in Geeveston and then when she started coming to Sisters Beach the same thing happened. “I suppose when I move here for good it will rain all the time.” she said jokingly. Last Tuesday (13th July) she moved here for good and guess what? It has not stopped raining since!

Raindrops

According to the weather forecast we have another week of wet weather to look forward to. After this deluge I most certainly hope that our water tanks are full.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. We’ve also discovered that every time we move and it’s the day to move our furniture in, it rains.
Last time, we were fully prepared. And it didn’t rain.
Then they opened the container. Which was empty.
I prefer dealing with the rain.
