I came across this post from Sadie at “Keep It Alive” and could not resist joining in.
Childhood Toys
Have you kept anything from your younger days or childhood?
Anyone who has read this blog more than a couple of times probably knows how much Naomi and I value our childhood toys. We both still have some of them and we have both spent time searching for replacements for ones that we no longer owned. We also have many things that we owned as young adults in our first homes. We love old stuff. Some people might call us hoarders. We call ourselves collectors and if anyone from a reality TV show comes to try and declutter us they will be met with a hostile reception and possibly the garden hose.
Theresa my first big baby doll My original Sindy in Country Walk Christine, my childhood walking doll.
The first photo above shows not only my first large baby doll but a smaller rag doll made by mum when I was about five or so and the elephant teething ring was mine as a baby. The second one is of a doll I received on my fourth birthday and the last one is of my original Sindy doll which I was given when I was about seven. It was these childhood dolls that started me off as a doll collector.
The toy in the photo above is not my original but I had one just like this as a child.
If I wanted this to be a very long post I would show you the china tea set that mum gave me that she bought for herself in the early 1960s or the brass ornaments that belonged to our grandmother and later to mum. I could show you the mid century buffet that belonged to David’s parents, given to us when we were first married. I could tell you about the little Chinese folk doll that I’ve had since I was two years old.
Surrounding ourselves with these things from our childhood and early adult years gives me comfort and makes me happy and that is all that matters.
Lovely doll collection. Thanks for joining in
