Share Your World 2021: 5 April

QUESTIONS:

Do you think psychic abilities exist?

Yes, I think it is possible to be at least mildly psychic although a lot of what we see on TV is probably the power of suggestion at work.

How would you describe peanut butter to someone who didn’t know what it was?

I guess that I would describe it as a paste made from crushed peanuts.

Why does an octopus squirt ink?

Because it doesn’t have a pencil?

Who are two of today’s greatest entertainers in your opinion?  (can be actors, musicians, singers etc)

What do we mean when we say today? Do we mean people who are still alive and have had careers for several decades or do we mean those who have started their careers in the last decade or so? If it is the latter I really can’t answer because I rarely watch new movies or TV shows and all the music I like best was made before 1995. I guess if I sat and thought about it for a while I might be able to give you two entertainers from the modern era that I like but none come to mind immediately and I like to be able to answer SYW questions off the cuff so to speak. I have trouble guessing the names of actors featured on Fantales wrappers these days. I guess one of my favourite actors of recent years has been David Tennant. I’ve seen him in a few things besides Doctor Who and I always enjoy his work. However, he’s not a young man either and I would hesitate to call him one of today’s greatest entertainers. He’s just an actor I like. There are no real old style movie stars today. Maybe you could call George Clooney one. I’m sure he would have been in the golden era of film.

GRATITUDE SECTION (always optional)

Please feel free to share a moment of gratitude in your life!

I should be grateful for the nice weather we have had over Easter. So often it rains on this long weekend and it has been 20-24 degrees Celsius for most of it. However, I’m actually looking forward to autumn. We picked up our bulbs from the tulip farm last week and I want it to be cool enough to plant them. Daylight Saving Time has ended and the days are becoming shorter, trees are starting to turn gold here and there.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. I love your answer about the octopus. 😆. I am looking forward to autumn too. This summer was so deliciously unlike the previous one but I still am looking forward to cold fresh days when walking the dog at midday is perfectly desirable and enjoyable.

  2. Thank you so much Vanda for Sharing Your World! It’s nice to see your post, I’ve missed your answers each week, but realize that life and circumstance often take precedence! The tulip farm looks very beautiful. It’s coming on Autumn on your side of the world, isn’t it? It’s Spring over here, although in Utah today it is snowing. 😦 Bleah. I loved your octopus answer…PERFECT! ☺ And your entertainer choice was wonderful too! The question was meant as a personal choice one, I ought to have put a bit more explanation there perhaps. I like David Tennant too!! Have a wonderful week!

  3. Sometimes the reality that you are on the other side of the world is startling. I’m waiting for spring and you are waiting for the leaves to change color. I love both in-between seasons, but we get a lot of fall and very little (if any) spring. Today was beautiful, but the temperature is dropping tonight and the rest of the week will be cold. Oh well.

    • We had a warm sunny Easter which is unusual. It always seems to rain at Easter. Today though the wind has been howling and we’ve had several heavy showers. We decided to stay in and bake. We seem to have a longer spring and shorter autumn although in Tasmania at least we have autumn. In South Australia it seemed to stay like summer until after Easter and even into early May. Of course except in hilly areas deciduous trees don’t grow well there. One of the things I like about Tassie best are the autumn colours.
