QUESTIONS

  • What is your favorite type of cookie (they’re called biscuits in Europe I believe)?

If we are talking shop bought biscuits it is the Tim Tam. They come in a variety of flavours and I like most of them, double choc, caramel, orange, they are all good. Home made biscuits you can’t go past the ANZAC biscuit although I also have a ginger biscuit recipe which is very more-ish.

  • If you could choose one age and remain that forever, what would it be and why?

I quite enjoyed my thirties. I wouldn’t pick a specific age but that was a good decade. Not too young, not too old. I felt I was coming into my own at that age.

  • Do you have a traditional drink during the holiday season?

Not really. We sometimes get eggnog, the non alcoholic kind.

  • Are you able to still believe in holiday magic as you did when you were a child?

I can, sometimes it’s not easy with so much negativity about but that’s the part of Christmas I like the best.

Christmas decorations outside my friend Karen’s house.

Gratitude

It’s been a weird year to say the least but we’ve made it almost to the end. None of my friends or family got Covid that I know of and here in Australia we haven’t had it as bad as in many places. I am grateful for living in a beautiful place where I can enjoy the wildlife right in my own backyard.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Thanks Vanda for Sharing a cheery glimpse into Your World! Those cookies look DELICIOUS! I found, last summer, a package of frozen dark molasses and ginger cookies, which remained hidden until recently, when I uncovered it. Now I’m having ginger cookies for my Christmas cheer! The homemade ones are the best! What lovely decorations, and so festive! I agree that not being exposed to, nor catching Covid is a great blessing! Merry Christmas!
