Share Your World 2020: 21 September

I am a little late to the party this week but here are my answers.

Share Your World Meets Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows

(The Final HP Question Set)

Roger’s Magical, Mystical Questions:

  1. Have you ever driven the wrong way on a one-way street? How did this come about?

As I am a non driver this has never happened to me.

  1. As a kid, did you ever decide to run away? Did you have a plan? Take a pet? Sandwiches?

I seem to remember threatening to do it but of course I never did.

  1. You suddenly found you have a hidden talent for playing a musical instrument. What musical instrument do you hope that accompanies your talent? Any particular song?

I never learned to play any musical instrument but if I was magically given the talent to play one I hope it would be piano, acoustic guitar or bagpipes.

  1. Do you accessorize with jewelry? There was an opal necklace (cursed) and Slytherin’s locket (also cursed) in the Potter story. Have you had any heirloom jewelry passed down through the generations? Is it more ‘keepsake’ or do you wear it on occasion? (Hopefully, yours was not cursed?)

I have a few bits of jewellery but I don’t often wear it. I have a couple of things that belonged to my grandmother, strings of beads but these are keepsakes only. I don’t wear them. From my childhood I have a necklace with crystals, or maybe its glass from my grandma and a bracelet with gemstones. I also have an opal pendant mum gave me when I was in my twenties. I occasionally wear the pendant but the other things are too small of course.

Melanie’s Ordinary Muggle Questions:

What ingredients go into YOUR favorite salad?

My favourite salads are potato salad, coleslaw and pasta salad. I think most people know the main ingredients for these.

If you care to, share something that really irritates you.

Only one thing? Well one thing that really irritates me is two step verification on websites. As you know, I loathe using mobile phones and at home my phone sits on the charger or in my bag. If I am on the computer trying to log in to Amazon or some other website I resent having to get up go and find the phone and unlock it just to get the damn number to input. Why can’t they just send me an email? And why is it a “one time password” if I have to be sent one every time I log in to the website. Pah!

What are your favorite ‘lounging around the house’ items of clothing?  Now that a lot of people ‘lounge around the house’ waiting for the all clear in respect to Covid being shown the door, have those lounging items changed?

Not for me. Covid normal wear is my all the time normal. I usually wear track pants (sweatpants) or leggings if I am staying at home, with either a long or short sleeved T-shirt and a polar fleece top or knitted jumper (sweater) or cardigan over it in cold weather. Shoes are usually slippers indoors, or a beat up pair of Colorado shoes or sneakers if I’m outside or walking Cindy.

GRATITUDE (as always this is optional)

Please feel free to share something about Autumn (or Spring if you’re gearing up for that) that you especially enjoy!

Spring is well underway here, there are a lot of daffodils which seem to flower later here than in the Huon and my potted tulips have just started to bloom. This photo is of some of last years tulips

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Thank you so much Vanda for Sharing Your World! I am wildly envious of your beautiful flowers and the onset of Spring! Those tulips were magnificent! ☺ Those salads are very delicious aren’t they? Such good choices! I’ve made a home-made shrimp and pasta salad, but I really prefer store bought (something about the way they season it)..and homemade potato salad is the best! Yum! Those ‘double’ verifications on certain websites are highly annoying! So far I’ve denied them (Amazon anyway) access to make my own account the same way. What a challenge! Take care Vanda and have a great week!
