Share Your World Meets Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- Harry Potter can speak to snakes. If you were able to have conversations with any one animal, what animal would you like to speak to? What would be the topic of your first conversation?
I’d love to be able to speak to animals and I think that my own pets would be the first creatures I’d want to talk to. I’d want to tell Cindy that she doesn’t have to worry when I go out without her because I will always come back. I’d like to ask Polly to please let me clean her eyes and give her flea and worm treatments without her putting up a fight about it.
- The portraits in Hogwart’s dormitories can talk. If your graduation portrait could speak to people passing it by, what would it tell them?
I never had a graduation portrait so I’ll have to pass on this one.
- Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger use the Pollyjuice Potion for finding new clues for the happenings at Hogwarts. (The Pollyjuice Potion is a magic potion that allows your body to form into that of another and live their life for a few hours.) If you could transform into another being, who would you chose to be? What would you hope to learn?
I don’t think I’d like to transform into another person but maybe into Cindy or Polly to see life from their perspective. It might make me a better pet owner.
- There was a flooding in the girl’s bathroom where Moaning Myrtle resides. What has been the most dangerous (or comical) ‘flooding’ where you reside?
I had a flood in my laundry once when my hot water service sprung a leak but it was neither dangerous nor comical. Luckily it was a tiled floor so it was just a nuisance. I agree with Marilyn whose answers I read earlier. There is nothing funny about a household flood. At best you get wet smelly carpets, at worst ruined possessions and serious expense replacing everything.
Mundane or “Muggle” Questions:
(Serious one which is rather creepy): How do you think you’ll die? IF you do think about it?
I do think about it. I know how I’d like to die, at home in my sleep but how I actually will die I have no idea. I just hope it will be quick.
What’s the best on-line screen name you’ve seen? “Best might mean the oddest.
Nope. I’ve got nothing.
What’s invisible that you wish people could see?
Again I agree with Marilyn. Odour, also certain disabilities which are unnoticeable most of the time. I’m thinking of the people who have a genuine reason for having a disabled sticker for their car but don’t look disabled. They get grief from other people who think they are parking illegally or not entitled to the sticker.
If over time you replace parts on a car, at what point does it stop being the same car you bought? How many parts do you need to replace to make it a new car?
If you replaced all the parts in a car you would have spent far more than the car is worth and it would never be new because you would not be replacing them at the same time. David and I owned 3 cars in 30 years. We changed them when the repairs were more expensive and more frequent than it would have been to buy a new one.
Our Other Blog: Two Sisters and Two Points of View 
My father “has” a trailer which his father had before him. But Dad is pretty sure there are no original parts left on the trailer. What remains are the original dimensions and basic plan as all the new parts were bought to fit the old trailer. It’s always an interesting question (about when something ceases to be itself if you keep replacing bits) because I’ve heard it applied to humans too. Our cells are constantly replacing themselves but like my father’s trailer, they stick to the same original plan. And so while we are in a constant state of refresh, we never change so extremely as to become unrecognisable. So I guess, in essence, we remain the same.

Thanks Vanda for Sharing Your World! Your pets are ADORABLE and obviously are very comfortable with each other. I took Ziggy for a visit to see my cousin, who has a small dog and a cat. He was fine with the dog, but at one point when he wasn’t being monitored closely (I was doing that because I don’t know if Ziggy’s ever been around a cat), he took of chasing the cat and barking his head off. I guess now I know. He’ll chase them. I can’t have a cat because of allergies, so there’s no hope of getting him used to them. Your pets are beautiful and obviously well loved!
I don’t think Roger’s intention was to make light of flooding, it’s just that some occurrences (not in any building … well floods really aren’t funny at all) but my example is when in 1982? early 80s any way, Salt Lake City ‘flooded’ when we had a really wet spring and the sewer and drainage systems were inadequate to handle the water, they build a sort of dyke of sand bags along one major street and directed the water there, making a swiftly flowing river. One of the ‘rivers’ was right down the major road then – State Street. I was walking on TOP of the dyke (my stupidity) with my mother (who was on the sidewalk, and we were talking about how odd it was to see so much water there. I stepped in a holey sandbag and lost my shoe! Had to walk home again barefoot. Served me right I guess, but that was pretty funny… so I think that’s the sort of ‘comical’ flooding story Roger meant. I’ll have to read Marilyn’s SYW and see what she wrote. I hope no offense was given.
One person, thus far, answering the question about the ‘new’ car, said as long as the VIN (in America, cars are identified by a permanent number called the VIN) stays the same, the car is the same car. I’ve heard from smarter folk too who cited a theorem by Socrates or Einstein or someone on that level which talks about the human body and the replacement of our cells. Interesting discussion has come of that question!

I wasn’t offended by the flood question, that was my take on it but your lost shoe story was pretty funny. Someone mentioned the human body example to me in comments too.

Cindy and Polly don’t often sleep on the same mat so it’s always worth a photo when it happens. Polly was a stray kitten that we found and when we took her home Cindy was very interested in her and even licked her so Polly bonded with her and always wanted to cuddle up with her. I have pictures of her sleeping between Cindy’s paws. Apart from a spat that lasted several months in 2018-19 when Polly would have nothing to do with her she and Cindy have been friends ever since, nearly 8 years.

I have lived alone except for my cat and dog for several years and I think we communicate pretty well but it would be nice if they could tell me what they need more clearly sometimes.
