RDP: Outdoors


Sunday at Sisters Beach

Here is our lovely local beach. I took Cindy down there today on this rather cloudy afternoon. There were a few other dog walkers and strollers about but otherwise we had it all to ourselves.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

    • The surrounding hills are part of Rocky Cape National Park which stretches east and west of Sisters Beach. There are bushwalking tracks. I think you would love this place.       I took my photos from the western side of the creek. The boat ramp is quite a long walk and the beach is rocky at that end so I haven’t been down there for a while but that’s where a couple of them start. Postman’s Track was the original route into Sisters Beach and one end of it is not far from our house.

      • I dropped the Google Stree View manikin on Google Maps and gathered some more impressions. It looks gorgeous there. Also, it seems like not many people have taken photos for Google Maps there but one person uploaded a 360-degree panorama from almost the same location your pictures were shot, western side of the creek as you said.

        I also randomly dropped the Street View manikin on some of the streets that surround the national park. It does indeed look like an interesting place. A lot of shallow growth there.

      • I think you would really like it. It’s not a very well known place, Boat Harbour a little to the east is better known. There are not many stock photos of Sisters Beach that I have seen so far. Some of the locals take photos on their visits to the beach which they post to the Sisters Beach Facebook page.
