Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Sense of Smelling

What is that smell?

From childhood I have always associated the smell of lavender with summer.

I planted this a year or so ago when we started doing the back garden. it has grown like crazy.

The smell of freshly brewed coffee.

Coffee machine at a local cafe.

How about the smell of wet concrete?

Bus Stop in the rain.

The smell of freshly mown grass.

Looking to the house summer.

I will never forget how everything smelled of smoke during the bushfires. It was so bad people were advised to stay indoors.

Smoke from nearby fires discolours the sky.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. My current housemates are Cindy, my 14-year-old Staffy-Lab X dog and Polly the world's most unsociable cat who is seven.

    • Hi Claudia. Find Australia on the map then go a bit further south. You will see the body of water called Bass Strait and then a large island. That’s us!
My original posts were written in what WordPress now calls the Classic Editor. I initially stayed away from the Block Editor but then decided that I had better learn to use it as for sure they would get rid of the old one. I mostly use it now although I don’t use all the features. Moving blocks around is quite handy when I’m editing. It means I can write my post and then drop the photos in afterwards or vice versa without a lot of mucking around. I’d have been just as happy if WP had not introduced it but I can live with it.
