Let There Be Light
Well this afternoon wasn’t as boring as I thought it would be. I wasn’t really expecting much from today. I got up at six to go to work. I did the usual frantic running about getting myself ready and putting the pets outside and one dog inside because he digs under the fence and escapes. I headed off to work which is five minutes walk from where I live. As I walked I gazed up at the sky and wondered if it would rain again. We had a nice drop through the night which is needed. Oatlands is actually looking quite green again after the dry summer we had. I walked the five minutes to work and wondered what the day would bring. I hoped the four hours at work would pass quickly with few events which it did. I cleaned the community health building and student accommodation and headed back to the main building to return my keys. I dropped off a pile of missing plates at the kitchen that I had come across in my travels to a very happy kitchen hand. They had been running short of side plates and they were thrilled that I had found some at the accommodation houses. Well I was happy to have helped and pleased the kitchen staff. Their smiles made my day.
So I took off for home at 11am as it is my short day. I would have been driving to Sisters Beach today I thought to myself. Because of the restrictions I have not been going anywhere at all. Like many people I know here in town I have not left Oatlands for nearly a month. My travels have been via the Internet on the Super Highway. Now here is something funny. When I was younger and the Internet was a fairly new thing I remember hearing them nattering about the new information superhighway. I thought they were talking about the new highway they were supposed to be building through the Adelaide Hills. Upgrades were very much needed at the time and they were going to build some tunnels. Wow! I had no idea and was quite surprised to find out what it really was. Getting back to my day I was expecting a boring afternoon but I had three parcels to pick up. Lying on the mat inside my big double doors at the front of my place was a blue and white card from the Post Office telling me I had three parcels. Well that cheered me up no end. I just love getting parcels. I raced over the road to get them and I had one very large box, one medium box and a small box. Which one do I open first? I went for the smaller one and it was six boxes of led light globes. I was very happy about that. I was down to the two last globes in my chandelier. They would be blowing pretty soon so I grabbed the step ladder and changed the lot over. What a difference! With only two globes it was hard to see to do anything. Now I have five new ones.
Well it was so nice not to have to look up at the three crook light globes anymore. I haven’t been able to get any here or even in town and when I did see them they were bloody expensive. I ended up buying them online because it was cheaper. I got six for the price of two in town. Forget buying them here. I’m surprised they are not delivered in an armourguard truck. Above you can see my lovely new light globes. You might think me crazy for being so excited about it but I have been without them since last year. One by one they blew and I wasn’t able to replace them. I should have looked online for them in the first place. Now I need to do the outside front light if I can get it down. It’s about twelve foot up and over the front steps.
I opened the big parcel next and sure enough it was my three tiered anodised cake tin that I won in an auction recently. I had always wanted one and I thought it would look very nice in my Sisters Beach retro kitchen when I can get back there. I don’t know when that will be but as I am doing a black and white theme on the cupboards and everything I thought a splash of colour here and there would look great. This is one of the things I thought I would put on the bench. It is missing the knob on the lid but I will look for a messed up looking pot or something and cannibalise it for the knob. I found a stray saucepan lid this afternoon but I am not sure if I have the pot or not. Some of my vintage pots are already at Sisters Beach while some are here. It would be dreadful to mess up something by mistake.
The medium box I have left unopened for now because it is not for me. It is in fact Vanda’s birthday presents. I can tell by the shape and weight of the parcel. She will do her own blog on those once she has them. Her birthday is at the end of next month. I am hoping I will be able to visit but if not I will just have to post them to her. You will all see what they are as they will be in a post by Vanda on Dolls.
So my day was brightened up a fair bit by getting these parcels. Even a mundane thing like getting the light globes made my day. I took the dogs out for their walk once I had opened my parcels. It had stayed dry but was cold and windy so I had to wear a jacket and my scarf. I had a chat with someone I know which was nice even at 1.5 metres. We had to speak up a bit because of the wind. We are getting old and deaf. The dogs had a lovely romp around the park and Toby got lost. I had to really yell for him before he heard us and ran back. There were two giant ride on lawn mowers going on the lawns by the lake so it was pretty noisy. I think he had trouble hearing me too. So that was my day. Not what you call an exciting one but we passed the time nicely and I am thankful for having a good day rather than a bad day.
