Homes at Sisters Beach
I haven’t written much about Sisters Beach since I am only a part time resident at the moment. I still live in Oatlands in the Southern Midlands and at this point in time I still have a job. My plan is to retire at Sisters Beach but for now I am spending holidays and weekends there when I don’t have to work. I originally planned to go there this weekend but everything has changed due to the Covid 19. Well at least I am not in isolation. I can still pop in the supermarket to buy groceries and walk my dogs around the lake.
I was lucky enough to have a couple of weeks at Sisters Beach before all of this Covid 19 drama unfolded. One of the things I wanted to do was to photograph some of the older homes that are dotted around the area. They are quite interesting because of the way they are built. They are unpretentious, sometimes colourful and so full of character. I can imagine the people who used to come to these shacks for their holidays. I can see them walking barefoot to the beach and back. Maybe they collected seashells and beach pebbles as I do. They might have had a wooden boat that they could launch from one of the old ramps. The children could run around freely without a care in the world while their parents cooked a barbecue and talked while having a beer or two. What fun the children would have had playing games on the beach and running around with the family dog.
Anyway Here are the photos I took of the homes. We had a lovely walk while I took these and I remember it rained and we just made it back in time before it really came down. Most of the homes are fibro board or weatherboard. There is one made from shipping containers. One used to be the local church. The pastor once lived in our house. He actually ran a Sunday school from there so I wondered if he had held services at this church once. There is an old caravan that I spotted also. There is a very interesting home that looks as if it had been something else once. Hope you enjoy the photos.
We do have some interesting houses in Sisters Beach.
