On A Scale Of 1-10, How Strict Were Your Parents?

If 1 is not very strict and 10 is extremely strict I’d say mum was something like a four. Our dad died when we were quite young but I think he would have been the same. We were expected to be polite and well behaved, respectful to adults, tell the truth, keep our rooms tidy, finish what was on our plates at meals and things like that but mum did not make arbitrary rules about what we could and could not do. She taught us what she believed was the right way to behave and as we grew older trusted us to make our own decisions.

What Wastes The Most Time In Your Day To Day Life?

Really, you have to ask that? Hanging out on the computer for sure.

Do They Bury People With Their Braces* On?   (* “braces” in this scenario are those metal bits they put on people to straighten their teeth.   I realize “braces” are also some item of clothing that I believe men wear to keep their socks up or something.  I’m talking about the teeth option).

I don’t know. most old people don’t have braces on their teeth, they are lucky if they have teeth! I have never been to the funeral of a child or teenager so I don’t know what happens there. I guess it would depend on what the family wanted and certainly not a question I would ask. People are often buried or cremated with their rings or glasses on so I guess there is no reason braces could not be left on but on the other hand they are not necessary and if the deceased person hated them I imagine they would not want to be wearing them for their funeral

By the way the other braces are to keep trousers up and I imagine a lot of old guys are buried with them on.

Why Does A Round Pizza Come In A Square Box?

Square boxes fit better in a storage cupboard? Easier to get the pizza out of the box? Square boxes are cheaper to make? I believe they make square pizzas now, do they put them in round boxes?

Gratitude:   Share something you are grateful for right now.  I know that’s a tough question.  It helps to share those bright bits with folks though, because many of us are seeing through an increasingly dark glass.

Sisters Beach is a very quiet place, there are not many permanent residents so you can walk around the neighbourhood without being in close contact with others. It’s safe and it’s pretty. There are worse places to be isolated in.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Thank you Vanda for Sharing Your World! You are indeed blessed to have such beauty and solitude to enjoy close to home! Thanks for sharing that lovely photo! 🙂 The most popular answer to the pizza question is that round boxes are expensive to manufacture and store. They aren’t going to make a dent in the square box trade apparently! 🙂

    • That picture was taken at Sisters Beach where Sisters Creek meets the sea. Sisters Beach is a small beach community in north west Tasmania. It is surrounded by Rocky Cape National Park. The nearest town is Wynyard, the nearest city is Burnie.

      • Well I looked it up and wow, beautiful. Saw the Tulip Farm near there. I bet that is absolutely beautiful when they are in bloom! And the Winged House! It hangs nearly over the water! The land there is beautiful. Was it damaged by the fires at all?

  2. The tulip farm is beautiful. I only moved here in November but I was lucky enough to visit the farm during the annual tulip festival a few years ago. All of Tasmania is beautiful though. Have a look at pictures of the Huon Valley, Cradle Mountain, Strahan, Bay of Fires. It’s a special part of Australia. The most recent fires this past summer and the ones the year before did not impact this area but there have been fires in previous years so I’m told.
