Calendar Time
This is the time of year that calendars and diaries for the following year start showing up in the shops. Even in this digital age some of us still like a calendar on the wall with pretty pictures.
My friend Gillian and I have a bit of a tradition of swapping calendars at Christmas. We used to swap calendars with pictures of trains but in recent years its been dogs. We usually buy the ones produced by non-profit organisations because we like to support them. Gillian’s assistance dog Dusty actually featured in a calendar a year or two ago. Of course, I kept that page, Dusty is pretty cute.

That’s the only trouble with calendars. What to do with them at the end of the year? It seems such a shame to throw them away when the pictures are so nice. I used to keep them thinking I might do something crafty with them but eventually I ended up with a pile of old calendars which I still hadn’t done anything with so now I sadly recycle them.
Thanks for responding to the prompt, and with such an interesting post!
You must have flipped your calendar quite a few hours before us here in Saskatchewan, as it’s only 5 am here. As to the use of old calendars, I do keep some of them, too, and will often take pretty pictures from expired calendars and post them to my wall with sticky tack. That way I get to enjoy them for another few months. I have a nice one right here beside my computer: a painting of orchids blooming in a windowsill.

They often are just too nice to waste aren’t they? Yes, it’s 11pm Sunday evening here so nearly December 2.

It is a shame, so many beautiful images to let go. Maybe an elementary art teacher would use them in collage work.

A few ideas for old calendars could be 1/ use the pictures to make a new one of your own, 2/ laminate the pictures to make placemats for your table or outdoor area, 3/paste favourite pictures into a book to keep, 4/ decorate a wall in a garage or holiday shack with them, make jigsaws out of them, find out if any Greenies have ideaslike turning them back into trees.

I used to save them to do things like that with but it’s one of those things I never got around to doing. I did find Dusty’s photo today though so I ought to frame that.
