Smile! You’re On Candid Camera
Here are a couple of candid photos of Cindy and Polly relaxing in the living room.

Nearly all my photos of people are candid photos because I am too shy to ask people to pose. Here are a few from the archives.

Great photos. And I think candid photos are always better. When people in my family or friends want me to take photos of them, they always think we will do a lot of poses but I usually suggest we hang around for a while and let me decide when I take the photo. It’s a lot more natural. I also take some posed shots but they usually agree with me that the candid photos are very good and often even better. It especially works well if there is a third person so that they’re not concentrated on me or if there is an activity where I am just a spectator.

A lot of the articles I’ve read about photographing people say that it is better if they are doing something rather than just looking at the camera. Candid photography takes it a step further as the subject is often unaware of the photographer. My last one in this set is probably closer to street photography. I had been photographing pigeons but liked the guy in the beanie walking into the frame so left him in when I processed it. This is one that I think actually looks better in black and white.

I was pleased with how that one turned out and rather like the shop sign which actually says “Your Habitat” but looks like “our Habitat” in the photo. Quite appropriate I thought.
