Questions

What’s the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery or came into a huge fortune?

I’m going to interpret this as what would I do when I actually got the money not when I heard I was getting it. That would be Happy Dance and Phone Call to Sister. Once the money was sitting in my bank the two of us would go and buy a big house with room for all our pets, hobbies and collectibles. After we’d moved into it I could then think about all the other things I would like to do with it.

I don’t have many of the large-sized notes in my purse 🙂

Which decade do you think had the best sense of style?

There were some great fashions in the nineteen-thirties, the forties, fifties and sixties. Many very stylish although not necessarily what I would want to wear every day. I do love to look at movie stars from those decades and many of our favourite paper doll books feature fashions from those times as well. I don’t know if I could pick one. The thirties were probably the most elegant. Here are some fashions from a paper doll book called Army, Navy Wedding which was originally printed in the 1940s.

Would you rather be half your height or double your weight?

Seriously as I am already short and overweight I would not want to be either. Life as a little person would be difficult but probably better than being morbidly obese so I guess if I had to choose I’d say shorter.

If you wanted to get away from everyone totally, where would you hide?

I am not telling. Nor would I be taking a mobile phone.

What do you do that you love?  ❤

I love my hobbies, I love my doll collection and I enjoy photographing them especially the fashion dolls. I love going somewhere interesting to take pictures too. I’ve never been good at drawing and painting but I can do photography and that is art to me. I love my blogging hobby too even on days when it’s hard to fill the page.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Thanks Vanda for Sharing Your World! The paper doll book page was magnificent! They did know their style back then, didn’t they? And yes, I agree the 30s did show a lot of elegant evening wear. ❤
