Share Your World 2017 – Week #50

Sharing My World This Week

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?

I do hire someone to mow my lawns because I was never able to start the mower we had but I’d probably do it if I had an easier one to manage. I guess the real world answer is that I would hire someone to do anything that I couldn’t do in the way of cleaning and gardening. If money was no object I’d probably also have them do the things I didn’t like doing. There are more interesting things to be doing than cleaning. Blogging for example.

If you were to move and your home came fully furnished with everything you ever wanted, list at least three things from your old house you wish to retain?

It would be easier to list what I would not want to keep. I like most of the things in my house and I don’t really want to replace them with new things just for the sake of it. Some of my furniture belonged to David’s parents and was made in the fifties. “Mid Century” furniture is now quite trendy and expensive so I will just keep the mid-century furniture I already have.

My “Mid-Century ” furniture. The buffet belonged to David’s parents. I bought the china cabinet to match it. The little table Naomi gave me and it matches too.

What calms you down?

Some time alone will usually calm me down if I’m feeling stressed. Although I enjoy my volunteer job sometimes after a day of being around people I find it very calming to come home and just sit quietly for a while before I start doing things again.

What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

This past couple of weeks I’ve been indulging myself by watching Christmas movies. I know that a lot of people find Christmas tiresome but I love it. I love seeing Christmas decorations, baking the Christmas goodies and anticipating the nice day that Naomi and I have planned. I don’t do outdoor decorations like these which are at my friend Karen’s place but I did put my own tree and decorations up a few days earlier than usual so that I could enjoy them for longer. I have some nice scented candles too which I will enjoy using over the Christmas period.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.
