Was school easy or difficult for you? How so?
School was difficult for me. Not so much academically but because I was shy and very bad at anything that required hand eye coordination like sports, sewing and cooking. I disliked those subjects intensely. There were some mean teachers back in the sixties who would yell at you if you were not good at particular subjects. I particularly remember one Home Science teacher who yelled at me because I was not used to lighting a gas oven and didn’t want to reach inside to do it. She didn’t care when I tried to explain we only had electric at home.
I was lucky in that I was not teased by classmates but I resented well-meaning teachers’ attempts to integrate me into a group when I was quite happy reading or just taking a break from being with people. I could not leave soon enough.
List some of your favorite types of animals.
- Birds, especially the ones that visit my garden, finches, blue wrens, rosella’s occasionally, robins if I’m lucky.
- Macaques & Chimpanzees – such fun to watch at the zoo.
- Squirrels, we don’t have them here but they look so cute and I love reading about their antics in the gardens of fellow bloggers.
- Alpaca’s, their faces make me want to smile.
What is your favorite large city you have been to? What is the one thing you remember most?
I don’t know if I can pick just one. London is definitely my favourite of the few large cities I’ve been to. I love the history, the old buildings, the red buses and underground trains.
I also really like Sydney, perhaps not a very large city by world standards. I think the population is about three million but that fabulous harbour is hard to beat even though the skyline is being filled with ugly buildings.
On the whole though I prefer smaller cities like Wellington, New Zealand which is about the same size as Hobart I think.
What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week? Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.
In the past week or so my apple tree has suddenly blossomed. It never lasts long so I appreciate it while it does last.
