Rosehaven in Oatlands

Today I found out that they are shooting some scenes from the series Rosehaven here in Oatlands. I don’t actually know very much about this series as I don’t watch a lot of telly anymore but I was interested to see that they were filming some of it here. I managed to speak to some of the production crew today as they were setting things up. There is a vacant shop about three doors down from where I live on The High Street that they are leasing to use as a real estate office. During the filming of The Nightingale this was used for their dining room. The cast and crew had their meals in there while they were filming here in The High Street. A few weeks after that I noticed people cleaning and decorating in there. Another day it was full of piled up office furniture and computers and other stuff. I mistakenly thought a new business was opening. I remember thinking their stuff was piled up just any old how and the place looked like crap to be honest. “What sort of people are these?” I mused to myself. Later the real estate sign appeared in the window. Some people I know thought it was real and looked it up online. Then there was a letter box drop of a leaflet explaining about the filming of this series. Well I was quite surprised. Here is the leaflet dropped in letter boxes and put up in the post office.

I stopped to have a bit of a chat with the the people setting up the scenery. I asked if I could take some photos and they said not until they were all finished setting up. They explained that it would be unprofessional to let anyone photograph an unfinished set as it would look awful. They were very nice and happy to chat for some time which was great. I had Toby and Teddy with me as usual and people seem to like them. I think they open a lot of doors for me as people who like dogs often ask me about them which starts a conversation. Well I did take a picture of the building they are using in the series as the real estate office. They are not great photos but I thought I would post them anyway. I will try to get some better ones later when I am not working if they allow it.

I came to Australia with my mother and sister Vanda in 1966 from the UK aboard the Sitmar liner Castel Felice. We settled in South Australia I lived in the western suburbs of Adelaide for most of my life. I became very interested in retro items in my twenties. It was always a dream of mine to have an old house and fill it with retro items. I have done it twice now. My main interest is collecting old things. They do not have to be valuable, only interesting. There is something reassuring about old retro items. I have all sorts of things including doll related items. My other interests are my beautiful pets, art and going for drives to who knows where. I also enjoy board games or doing a scenic jig saw puzzle on a wintry afternoon by the fire. My goal is to travel a bit more as there are some places I would love to see

  1. That’s very interesting, last year they used a shop in High St , New Norfolk for the real estate agent, it was just across the road from where we bought Shirley Temple. They will be here in Geeveston next Tuesday, the 11th and I will try to get some pictures too if I can.

    • I didn’t know they were coming here. They went to New Norfolk I think. You are getting the streets scenes they said so you should get something good. I’m not sure if I will be able to get much as most of it is inside no. 70.

      • Last year they filmed scenes in Church St as Rosehaven’s main street. It was funny because you would see the characters walking down the street, they would turn a corner and suddenly they were in New Norfolk. Well done though, if you did not know the towns it would look perfectly normal.
