Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Buildings

Old Catholic Church at Ranelagh, Tasmania

Buildings

Buildings are one of my favourite photographic subjects. I like the shapes, colours and styles of old buildings. I sometimes photograph new ones if I think they look striking but I love the old buildings most of all.

Here is a photograph that I have been playing with in Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. It is the old catholic church at Ranelagh in the Huon Valley which has now been removed as they have built a larger new one. I am glad I have a picture of the old weatherboard church. I don’t suppose it was very nice in winter but it has character. I liked the photo because it was taken on a very stormy day. Here are two different versions of the picture. You can see the original here.

Born in England in 1957 my family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. David passed away in 2015 and I'm here on my own now but I have Cindy the dog and Polly the cat to keep me company. I currently co-write two Wordpress blogswith my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and a "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania.

    1. Yes Carol, well spotted I changed the colour scheme this afternoon and added a couple of new header pictures so they are supposed to display randomly. I wanted to include one of Naomi’s Oatlands pictures as well as my home town of Geeveston. We may play with the look a bit more over the next few months as I felt that with Naomi joining me it was time for a new look.

      1. I am so perplexed by WordPress. I have a another blog just for practice. Using WordPress is just intuitive for me. So, I leave it for while and then go back. I do like it.
