Share Your World -2016 – Week #37

Sharing My World This Week

Have you ever owned a rock, pet rock, or gem that is not jewelry?

I remember the pet rock craze. I always thought it was a little silly. However, I do find gemstones interesting. I have a little box of samples that I bought years ago showing different types of minerals found in Australia. Naomi has been learning about the healing properties of different gemstones over the past year or two and I’ve been with her when she’s bought them so I have a couple as well. When David was in hospital I bought him a little bag of  stones and he liked to hold them sometimes he thought they helped him with pain management. Whether they did or not I don’t know but my feeling was if he thought so then it was worth doing.

I have a box of samples something like this.

What is your greatest strength or weakness?

Procrastination is probably my greatest weakness. I can always think of a good reason not to do something I really don’t like doing like making phone calls or dealing with certain matters I don’t enjoy dealing with.

What makes you feel grounded?

This is not something that I really think about but I’d say that living my life the way I do, focusing on the little things that make me happy, home, pets, my hobbies and  the people around me make me feel grounded.

Would you rather never be able to eat warm food or never be able to eat cold food?

I would rather eat both otherwise I’d be faced with either giving up hot dinners or giving up chocolate and ice cream and neither of these are acceptable options. However, as we are in the SYW  universe where choices must be made I will say I’d rather never be able to eat cold food again because I prefer my breakfast toast to cereal and hot dinners to green salads.

roast dinner
Wouldn’t taste good cold.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week I was able to reunite a local lady with some friends in The Netherlands who she had lost contact with via this blog and that made me very happy.

I can now see that my Japanese maple has new leaf buds on it so next week I’m hoping there will be some on the other trees. I am also hoping we’ll have  nice sunny weather on a day when I don’t have to be at the Op Shop so I can take some photos. I really miss getting out taking pictures.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. Your greatest weakness sounds identical to mine! I procrastinate on things I don’t want to do and making phone calls is always at the top of my list of things I don’t want to do. Enjoy your sunny weather. I look forward to seeing your photos.
