Share Your World- 2016 – week #33

Sharing My World This Week

Would you travel into outer space?

I recently binge-watched the series “From the Earth to the Moon” on TV and it made me wonder why we became tired of the space program so quickly after the first moon landing.  I would love to see the earth from space.

I don’t think I would enjoy space travel in the technology we have now but if I could hitch a ride on the TARDIS or the starship Enterprise I’d certainly give it a go.

Which country/city in the world (that you have never been to) would you most like to visit and why?

Only one? There are loads of places I’d like to visit. In the USA alone New York, New Orleans, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington would be the top cities on my list. I think all of them would be fascinating cities to visit. I just noticed that apart from Washington they are all port cities which I am sure is part of the reason. These are the things I’d like to see most.

  • New York to see the art deco buildings and the Statue of Liberty and to ride the subway.
  • New Orleans  because I would like to listen to jazz and blues and travel on a paddlewheeler on the Mississippi.
  • San Francisco because I’d like to see the bay and the bridge and the trolley cars of course.
  • Seattle is a place I’ve wanted to see ever since I read the Betty McDonald books set in Seattle and the surrounding area.
  • Washington because I would like to see the White House (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched “The West Wing”) and the Smithsonian.

What could you do to breathe more deeply today?

Being alone in a peaceful place, my back garden or maybe a quiet corner in a park where I can hear the birds and forget about people and things that have to be done always helps.

The garden bench.
The garden bench.

Complete this sentence:  This creamy peanut butter sandwich could really use some …Cheese. I like a slice of cheese in a peanut butter sandwich, usually on wholegrain bread.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week Naomi and I had two enjoyable days out. One to celebrate her birthday and the other to visit a market and go to the Model Train Show.

I’m grateful that the weather stayed dry as we strolled around New Norfolk visiting antique shops. I did not buy much but Naomi found some things she wanted for her collections. At the Transport Museum where the model train show was held we saw and photographed a locomotive we had not seen in steam before so it was a good two days for us. This week however I’m looking forward to not going out except to the Op Shop as I really need to catch up with some chores around the house and write some blog posts.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. I think that’s the first time I’ve ever heard of someone else putting cheese on their peanut butter sandwich! I’ve not yet ran into anyone outside of my family that does it. Awesome! 🙂

    • Whenever I see those actors and actresses on other shows it’s like seeing an old friend. I was even able to pick a beardless Richard Schiff in “Made in Dagenham”.
