Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge – Events

All The Fun Of The Fair

This year may go down as the year that I didn’t get to any events. Lately the weather has been so bad that a day dry enough to walk to Geeveston is an event in itself. So this weeks photos will be from the archives again.

One type of event I’m very fond of is country shows. When I lived in the suburbs it was a rare opportunity to get into the country but even now I enjoy it. Country shows are  great places to see animals and buy delicious home-made produce. Often there will be a “Trash and Treasure ” type  market. Naomi and I will  go anywhere for secondhand stalls, you never know what you may find.

Oatlands

I used to always try to go to Oatlands for the Spring Fair.  There was a parade, a market and a farm show. These two photographs are from the 2010 Fair.

Woodsdale

Naomi and I visited the fair at Woodsdale which is a tiny town not too far from Oatlands back around 2009.

Middleton

Nearer to home Middleton is a little town on the Channel Highway. The Middleton Fair is in late summer and I attended a couple of times when I was volunteering at the local radio station. Usually though David and I would just take a drive to see the entries for the Scarecrow competition. In case you hadn’t noticed I am rather partial to pipe bands.

Born in England in 1957 my family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. David passed away in 2015 and I'm here on my own now but I have Cindy the dog and Polly the cat to keep me company. I currently co-write two Wordpress blogswith my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and a "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania.
