After our abysmal showing during the Ashes earlier in the year I’ve not given cricket a lot of thought but summer means cricket at home in Australia and it snuck up on me. On Thursday the First Test against New Zealand began in Brisbane.
I have been enjoying the match on television and it’s encouraging to see that after the retirement of several older players some good new batsmen have come along. Let’s hope they can keep it up. It’s a bad summer when Australia lose at home but overseas we don’t always do so well.
Meanwhile, in New York, cricket is about to be unleashed on the unsuspecting American public in the first of three T20 games which are being played to raise awareness of the game in the USA. The teams will feature retired greats such as Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Australians, Ricky Ponting, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne. The other two games are to be in Houston and Los Angeles.
I don’t know if the games will be televised in the USA but I know they are being shown live here and I will certainly be keen to see it although not keen enough to get up at 4:30 am on Sunday morning. I’ll be recording it to watch later. T20 cricket is a lot of fun to watch so if it is and you enjoy watching sport it will be worth a look I think.
