A Serendipitous Photo Story #2 – Meet Tilly

Today I thought that I would try Marilyn’s Serendipitous Photo Story Prompt.

Tilly the antique store cat.
Tilly the antique store cat.

This is Tilly. I met her on Tuesday when my sister and I were browsing around Willow Court in New Norfolk. The Willow Court complex used to be the site of a hospital. Now it houses club rooms, a motel, cafe and various shops. Tilly’s home is the Willow Court Antique Centre which is appropriate because Tilly is an antique herself. She is nearly twenty years old.

When I met her she was sitting on the front steps enjoying the afternoon sun. She didn’t wish to be photographed at first and turned her head away but as I chatted with the lady from the store she decided to cooperate and posed nicely for me.

Tilly is quite spry for a cat of her age apparently but she can’t jump any more. I’m not sure what the equivalent would be in human years but I’m sure that if I were her age I wouldn’t be jumping all over the place either. She looks as if she has spent some time living rough before adopting the antique shop as her home. At least now she has food and somewhere dry to sleep.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. My current housemates are Cindy, my 14-year-old Staffy-Lab X dog and Polly the world's most unsociable cat who is seven.

  1. My cat Big Guy — the BEST cat in the world — looked very like your Tilly. We passed more than 15 years ago, but he was the best cat ever and we decided he could never be replaced.

  2. For those who may wonder Tilly passed a year or so ago but there are still cats at Willow Court and probably always will be. At least while the current owners are there anyway.
