Share Your World – 2015 – Week #5

Sharing My World This Week

Do you prefer shopping or going to a park?

I like both. I’d certainly take the park over grocery shopping but I love browsing around the shops for fun. My sister and I have had many fun expeditions checking out markets, antique and second-hand shops or browsing around art and craft stores for hobby supplies. If I visit a different city I usually try to check out the shops. However, there are times when I feel like I’ve had enough of the hard pavements and look for a green shady space to relax in before catching my bus or train home. In Adelaide a favourite city park was Elder Park, a river side park which was handy for public transport and  with plenty of places to sit and enjoy a cold drink or an ice cream or just rest tired feet. Here in Hobart I sometimes go to sit on the lawns outside Parliament House if I’m too early for my bus. I do love to visit the Botanical Gardens especially in spring and it’s nice to visit National Parks and other green spaces when I am able to do so.

If you were a shoe, what kind would you be and why?

I’ve never thought about being a shoe but if I were one I’d be that comfortable pair that are a bit too shabby to wear out anywhere nice but that you can walk all day in. Why? Well because I’d rather be comfortable than fashionable I guess.

What’s the story behind a time when you got locked out?

I have got locked out of my sister’s house a couple of times because I forgot to make sure that the self locking device was undone. One time she was with me and she had to borrow a ladder and get in through the living room window. She wasn’t too happy with me. Another time was when she was away and I was minding the house for her. There was no way I could get through a window so I went across the road to the local council office where someone was kind enough to find a retired lock smith who managed to get me inside. I’ve made sure that I always carry a key now so that it doesn’t happen a third time.

Do you prefer eating foods with nuts or no nuts?

I have no problem with eating nuts. I like them. I don’t go out of my way to have them but I’ll eat them. The only ones I avoid are salted peanuts. I like peanuts but I don’t like salty food.

Shops v Parks: How to choose?

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. My current housemates are Cindy, my 14-year-old Staffy-Lab X dog and Polly the world's most unsociable cat who is seven.
