This afternoon I was making coffee in the kitchen and chatting to Hubby when he suddenly said “Look out the window!”

“What am I supposed to be looking at?” I had my back to it and couldn’t see what he was excited about.

“Birds.” he said and I turned and looked. There were two parrots sitting on a shrub in front of our “rustic”, as in nearly falling down, woodshed eating berries. They seemed oblivious to anything but their afternoon snack so I hurried to get the camera. I didn’t want to go outside because the noise of the back door would have frightened them and Cindy would have felt obliged to chase them away. As it was she was whimpering to go outside so I gave her a dog biscuit to distract her.

I took several photos through the window and the glass sliding door, the birds were there for more than ten minutes. I think they are Green Rosellas which are common in Tasmania. Sometimes they are known as Tasmanian Rosellas.

I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as we did.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

  1. I have a tea towel with your lovely parrots on! I’ll put a pic on a bit later. My cousin Marian was born in Australia but the family came back to UK when she was about 10. When she was in her 50’s she decided to have a holiday in Australia and visit all her childhood haunts. It took almost a year (and a lot of expense) to get a passport because her Mum, Auntie Flo was born Uk but Uncle Lewis was born in South Africia. After loads of hastle she had to apply for an Aussie one, although she had been married to a UK citizen for 30+ years. Anyway this tea towel was brought back from the hol and it always makes me smile.

  2. Wow! What a way to make a utilitarian shed look magnificent! Those birds are stunning and your photography “through a glass door” is perfect. 🙂
